Career Curriculum

Little by little, piece by piece over their school years, students will be led through activities that are designed to assist them in defining their personal strengths, work values and styles, goals, interests, and abilities in an effort to set and work towards the achievement of their educational and career goals.

The purposes of the Educational Career Planning Units are:

1) to provide the tools, resources, and guidance needed by students to decide what career clusters and career areas parallel their personal attributes; and

2) to assist students in planning their high school classes and activities so that they are positioned to initiate their post-secondary goals.

The theme of all of the secondary units is, Putting the Pieces Together , and is depicted by a large puzzle. Each puzzle piece is labeled with an activity that the students will be engaged in sometime during the undertaking of these units. An educational/career planning unit is taught yearly from grades 6 - 11 in a required course under the direction of the school counselor. The counselor jointly teaches the lesson with the classroom teacher, a career resource educator, and/or a career counselor. Seniors receive guidance on an individual basis. See the curriculum of each grade level below.

An important component of the career curriculum is individually scheduled conferences among the student, parent(s)/guardian(s) and counselor. The Student Education Career Planning (SECP) conferences are scheduled for seventh, ninth, tenth, and twelfth grade students. Click on the SECP Conference link below for further information.
